Chosen

Reflection by Dale Lennon

Chosen.

That is what you are. Chosen by God.

John 15:16 says:
You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name.

Contextually Jesus was talking to the disciples, but the same is true for you and I.

Before you were born God knew you, He knew all your days even then (Ps 139). He chose you, that you would follow him.

This is a paradox for many of us and I believe it would have been for the disciples when Jesus spoke to them. For our experience is that we choose God, that at some point in our lives we made a decision to follow Him. This looks very different from person to person, but many of us have a definitive memory of choosing God.

This is a beautiful thing and shouldn’t be glossed over.

In His divine wisdom God knew that you would choose Him, but beat you to the punch, by choosing you first.

This choosing was always intended.

You were chosen to be in this world right now.

Wherever you find yourself this week. Whether work or school, university or leisure or perhaps retirement. Know that God chose you and that He desires that your life bear fruit. That whatever your age or stage God wants to work in and through you for His glory.

Much Love
Dale
