Working ecumenically.

This is work that sometimes we as Christians shy away from.

Denominationalism can be tricky!

But despite the differences across denominations it is really important that we work together. We believe in the same God, true some of the interpretation around scripture  and action is different. But as believers of Jesus we need to find ways to bring people together.

A mature minister once said to me that the key to working ecumenically is to ‘major on the majors and minor on the minors’. Meaning we should focus on what the big key elements of our faith are, instead of getting stuck on perhaps the less important details that we don’t.

I am happy to let you know that we have been working ecumenically recently as a church!

Many of you may not be aware that over the past few months every Thursday night at Robina Anglican Church we have had approximately fifty Christian students from Bond University coming onsite to join with our current youth and young adults group in some combined modern praise and worship, such as what we normally sing in our 9:30am service.

We have worked ecumenically as many of these students come from a Coptic Orthodox or other Christian denomination. It has been wonderful in the midst of what has been a difficult year to work in this way.

This Christian group from Bond approached many churches in search of a place to be able to continue their Christian group as they were not able to due to COVID-19 at university. Fortunately we as a church with a COVID safe industry plan were able to accomodate them.

This was quite a bit of work, but I am proud that we could do this.

We are not to love in word only, but in deeds also!

Out of all the churches they approached we were the ones who were able to show love and work together ecumenically.

I am hopeful we will be able to work together again in the future and we will review this in the new year.

But suffice to say that working ecumenically is something we should strive for as Christians. This has been a great opportunity to grow and learn from each other.

Below is a quick snap from a  night a few weeks back!

Jesus said:

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
