A few weeks ago I preached a message in our ‘What’s New’ series and used the picture above for one of my slides.
Since then I have had a number of people mention to me that this was meaningful to them and that this moment in the service in particular struck them.
To provide context, what I said at the time was:
‘Inevitably, when the new comes into our lives there is change. Sometimes we don’t like it! But change is a big part of new beginnings.
In order to start or begin something new in our lives there often needs to be significant change. In the past year the world around us has changed and we are all adjusting to it.
But the truth is that the world was and is always changing, and we are as well. And in the midst of that change there is opportunity for the new.’
I’d like to think that there was something special to my words, but I realise that there was not.
But I am humbled to think that perhaps God might use me in some small way to speak into another person’s life.
As I have considered this I have realised how important it is to be aware of the impact we can have on others.
It may be cliche, but what you do can make a difference.
This means a change of mindset, see what I did there! 🙂
I confess that I certainly don’t always get this right, but if we are to continue to grow and change in our relationship with Jesus Christ then we need to consider how meaningful or detrimental our words and actions can be.
It is hard, but to become the people God is calling us to be will require change. We will not be perfect this side of eternity and we do not need to work to be perfect, but what is required of us is faithfulness to the God who loved us and sent his Son to die for us.
Might we embrace change for the better as we continue in 2021.
